Strawberry Overnight Oats are a quick meal prep breakfast everyone will enjoy. Make individual jars ahead of time to keep in the fridge for easy mornings.

Overnight oats are very possibly my favorite meal prep breakfast, ever.

I actually grew up eating lots of overnight oats in the good old 90ies, only we didn’t usually eat them for breakfast – it was my mom’s ultimate lazy dinner go-to.

But can you really blame her? Overnight oats are SO easy to make, taste delicious and I have yet to meet a kid who doesn’t like them.

These are on my meal prep plan pretty much every week these days. Yes, that’s how good they are 🙌🏻

There are a few things that make overnight oats absolutely unbeatable for meal prep:

  • so easy to assemble! just set out as many jars as you want to prep, fill each with the same amount of ingredients, stir and place in the fridge. Almost too good to be true!
  • endlessly customizable: have a kid who doesn’t like strawberries? Hey, hey exist… Since these come in individual jars, it’s super easy to accommodate different tastes. The same goes for different hunger levels – I always make smaller jars for the kids.
  • no need to heat up: these are eaten cold straight out of the fridge, which means putting breakfast on the table takes like 30 seconds.

Seriously foolproof, and one of my breakfast favorites right alongside sheet pan pancakes!

A few tips for the perfect overnight oats:

If you prefer more texture:

I always use quick-cooking oats here because they make the creamiest overnight oats.

If you prefer a little more chewiness/texture, feel free to use old-fashioned oats instead.

No chia seeds?

No problem!

You do not need chia seeds to make overnight oats, though I do appreciate the extra creaminess they add.

I don’t really buy chia seeds for anything but overnight oats. Since we make the oats so often, it’s worth it to me to have them on hand.

But if you want to whip up a batch and don’t have chia seeds, simply use 2 extra tablespoons of oats per jar and reduce the milk a little.

What if the consistency isn’t right in the morning?

I find these are very forgiving, but sometimes they turn out a little too runny or a little too stodgy.

To fix runny oats, just add a couple tablespoons of quick cooking oats/some chia, stir and wait for 5 minutes.

To fix gloopy oats, stir in a little extra yogurt.

How long can you store overnight oats?

As long as you work in a clean kitchen with clean jars, you could technically keep them for 4-5 days in the fridge.

However, I find they’re just not that palatable anymore after a few days, so I prep overnight oats 3 days ahead, max.

The best containers to store overnight oats:

I prefer making them in Weck jars instead of mason jars. The reason for this is that the metal mason jar lids start getting rusty after a few batches of overnight oats – not so pleasant.

The Weck jars have glass lids, so they are not impacted at all.

You can also just make them in smaller glass meal prep containers or plastic Tupperware boxes. I always prefer glass over plastic, but that’s purely personal preference.
